During the
following week many rumours have emerged regarding Manchester City F.C. and Paris
Saint-Germain F.C. being suspended from the upcoming UEFA Champions League in
the 2019/2020 season.
Football
fans around the world know the incredible financial stability which these two
football clubs have. Throughout the last five to ten years these clubs have
created a project to improve every aspect possible such as; premises, staff,
players, marketing, etc. All this has been done with the help of their respective
management teams. Manchester City had been purchased by the Abu Dhabi United
Group for £210 million in 2008 while PSG had been purchased by the Oryx Qatar
Sports Investments in 2011.
These two
clubs have been specifically targeted for the Champions League ban because they
have breached the Financial Fair Play regulations stated by the UEFA. Throughout
the past years these two clubs have bought players from other teams in exchange
for astounding millions in money. For example, Paris Saint-Germain have
recently bought two world class players such as Kylian Mbappe from there
domestic rivals AS Monaco and Neymar JR from one of their main competitors in
the Champions League, F.C. Barcelona for the combined total price of €488.2 million.
Manchester
City’s manager Pep Guardiola was recently spoke to journalists about this issue
and is very optimistic that the UEFA will not come to the conclusion to ban the
club. He also stated that if this may happen his club will accept the verdict
and move on. Without a doubt if this occurs it will be a major set back to the
respective club in their quest to earn European glory.
Personally,
these teams must accept their faith because it is mostly their fault for the
incredible increase in prices when it come to transfers of players from one club
to another. Which opens a whole new debate to whether the UEFA should introduce
a limit in pricing when it comes to transfers.
